Special Education Advocacy

What does a Special Education Advocate do?
A Special Education Advocate helps parents and students navigate through the special education system by meeting with them to go over paperwork and to educate them about where the student is within the special education system.  We help them develop a plan of action and assist them in navigating through the CSE meeting at the school district.

We offer weekly Special Education Rights Workshops that are scheduled at libraries throughout Dutchess County. These workshops explain your rights, the school district's responsibilities, how to get services for a child, what the Committee on Special Education (CSE) process is, how the committee determines if a child is eligible for special education services, and what to do if you disagree.

We also periodically offer workshops on other Special Education topics. Please see the Calendar page for more information.
